Kurdamir district – administrative and territorial unit in the Republic of Azerbaijan . Founded in 1930 as the center of the Kurdamir district, which is part of the Aran economic region. It is located on the Shirvan plain. Kurdamir is bordered by Hajigabul and Sabirabad in the east , Imishli from the south , Zardab , Ujarand Goychay in the west, and Ismayilli and Aghsu in the north. The area is 1631.5 km², the population is 103.8 thousand people (01.01.2009). The center is Kurdamir.
Etymology
Kurdemir is supposed to be taken from the words ” Kur Dedir “. That is, when the Kura River was drowned, the area that was not affected by the flood (called water) was called Kurdamir, and over time, the “Y” was assimilated and it was used as “Kurdemir”.
History
The Kurdamir district was organized in 1930 . It is in the Shirvan plain.
Geography
The relief is plain. Most of its territory is below the sea level. Anthropogenic sediments are spread. The climate is mild, semi-desert and desert. The river network is sparse (downstream of Girdiman and Agsu rivers). Grass-grass, gray and grass-gray soils are mainly spread. Xerophytes have bushes and Tugai forests. Economy
It is mainly agriculture. Cotton growing, grain growing, livestock, as well as viticulture, horticulture and fishery are essential. They deal with poultry and livestock in the district. There are wine and asphalt plants, domestic service plant, and a large national flour factory. 43 km (III grade) of Aghsu-Kurdamir-Bahramtapa highway, 42 km (II level) of Alat-Gazimammad-Kurdamir-Yevlakh highway and 44 km of Baku-Tbilisi main railway pass through the district.

- “Kurdemir Regional Energy Supply” Limited Liability Company provides electricity to the population. 132 people in the society and 124 employees in Kurdamir Distribution Network have been provided with permanent jobs.
- Kurdamir Gas Management Department provides natural gas supply to the population. The management employs 63 people.
- Kurdamir Su-Kanal administration implements the needs of urban population for drinking water and provides sewage services. There are 37 permanent employees in the management.

Among them, “East Co LTD” limited liability company has created new vineyards and pomegranate plants. “
At the beginning of 2011, Azersun Holding ‘s Kurdamir milk processing plant is currently under completion. The factory, which has 30 tons of daily production capacity, is one of the largest production facilities in the region. More than 150 workers will be employed at the processing facility where it will operate under full production capacity. In addition, ULUSU sanatorium for 140 places has been functioning in Mollakand village since 1993. In that area in 1971, a water fountain hit a depth of 3500 meters at 91 degrees Celsius. The chemical composition of that water is analyzed in the famous Truskoveck , Kislovodskand the quality of treated water in other areas. This high-quality water is currently used efficiently in the treatment of joints, motion organs, rheumatism, skin and other diseases. The Kurdemir Olympic Sports Complex, which was opened in 2008, covers 5.5 hectares. There are manege, swimming pool, 5 two-storey cottages, mini-football stadium, hand play courts, boiler room, transformer substation. Kurdemir City Stadium is 4 hectares. The new stands for 2,000 seats, 2-storey tribune and courtroom, dressing rooms for the athletes and sanitary nodes were built at the stadium.
