Azerbaijan Airlines  is part of the Azerbaijan Hava Yollari Closed Joint Stock Company. In the same time, the biggest Azerbaijani airline and national flag carrier. Headquartered in Baku, it is a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The airline’s base airport, the Baku Heydar Aliyev international airport, located 20 km north-east of Baku. Azerbaijan Hava Yollari operates passenger flights to countries of Europe, the CIS, Middle East and Asia. In 2014,  the airline plans to open regular flights to destinations in North America and South-East Asia. As a national flag carrier, Azerbaijan Hava Yollari holds an important place in the international aviation community and a leading position in the CIS. Azerbaijan Hava Yollari is also a regional and CIS leader for the number of new aircraft.

Baku – named after H.Aliyev

Baku Heydar Aliyev international airport is one of the six international airports serving Azerbaijan.  On 10 March 2004, it renamed after Azerbaijan’s nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev. The airport located 20 km northeast of the capital Baku and linked to the city by two modern highways commissioned in 2008 and 2009. It is the base hub of the Azerbaijan Airlines national flag carrier.There are duty-free shops in the airport’s international terminal. Unlike most other international airports, there are shops not only in the departures but also in the arrivals area. Payments accepted by credit card, and can be also made in Azerbaijani Manats, US Dollars, Euros and Russian Rubles.

Baku Heydar Aliyev international airport complies with international requirements. Due to its favorable geographical location, it has become a first-choice regional airport for transfer flights between East and West, North and South.

Nakhichevan

The Nakhchivan airport is an airport in the Nakhchivan city of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. Located 4 km from the city center, it is the only air gate of this blockaded region of the country.

Runways

The Nakhchivan airport built in the 1970s and used to accommodate 3rd class aircraft (such as Yakovlev Yak-40, Antonov An-24, etc.). It used to Formerly, it dispatched flights to Baku. The airport developed in the latter half of the 1990s: as a result of the Armenian blockade of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, aviation became the only means of communication with the outside world. For this reason, Heydar Aliyev, who was the chairman of the Supreme Assembly (parliament) of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic at the time, initiated reconstruction of the Nakhchivan airport’s runway in 1992. The work carried out by local specialists and completed in a short period of time. Following extension of the runway, the airport started accommodating Tupolev Tu-154 aircraft.
In 2002-2004, a new terminal was built, while in April 2004 the Nakhchivan airport received the status of an international airport.
